›innovative combination of materials‹ 2011
The ›flexible wood‹ concept allows the creation of a flexible and yet supporting surface out of a wooden based grate structure which deforms in a three-dimensionally when a load is applied. The ›flexible wood‹ lounge chair offers a maximum of comfort, supporting the anatomy of the human body and relieving the spine and tailbone while sitting, without using upholstery. The grate structure is milled out of a plane wooden board. After milling the emerging grooves are filled with an elastomeric material which connects all elements back to a solid surface. The lounge chair illustrates the potential use of ›flexible wood‹ in other application areas.
